Momentous Gesture: A Conversation

In partnership with Photographic Center Northwest and SOIL, Strange Fire presents a conversation between the curator and artists of the Momentous Gesture exhibition, currently on view at SOIL Gallery. Curator Rafael Soldi will moderate a talk with artists Sebastián Calfuqueo, Mary Ann Peters, Meghann Riepenhoff, Serrah Russell, and dani tirrell about their practice and the works in the exhibition. Momentous Gesture presents a diverse group of artists whose work embraces predominantly gestural qualities while musing on critical intersectional socio-political issues—global conflict, environmental collapse, gender and racial oppression—reminding us that beauty can be found in a rigorous social conceptual framework. Spanning video, collage, painting, performance, and photochemistry, these artists weaponize gesture to bring focus to important questions about the world around us.
